Elizabeth Murray (1940-2007) was an American painter, printmaker, and draughtsman. Her works are in many major public collections, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Art Institute of Chicago, and Carnegie Museum of Art. Known for her abstract paintings, many of them on shaped canvases, Murray has also held numerous distinguished teaching positions.

She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from The Art Institute of Chicago in 1962. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Mills College in Oakland, California in 1964.
